So... Genesis 3 is out... Welcome to refitting hell dear DAZ users :D And just when I was starting to consider tanking a good look at G2, since there is finally enough support for it to maybe, probably, make it a viable option for me... It seams it was not meant to be - if G3 is out than whatever progress have been made towards using Genesis in Poser is done with.
The last couple of days I was agonizing over picking a direction - DAZ studio for better base models or Poser for better... Well everything else really. In the end it occurred to me that waiting again is probably the best bet - Genesis 4 is likely not that far away, given rate of model releases so far, so I may as well skip the generation until they actually settle on something complete and done with. And who knows - the next version of Poser is probably not that far away as well, maybe they will solve the comparability issue - it is clear that DAZ has no people capable of doing it, but Poser has an actually good coding team, so if enough demand for it exists they will manage.
I was although messing around with Reality as well - I really wanted to make Reality skin presets for my new character set but I ran out in to a simple problem - rendering times. Getting an image that gives me any idea about the final look of a texture setting takes half a day, tweaking bump and specular maps at that rate? It'll take month for one skin set... Thankfully the next reality update promises GPU rendering and x10 speed up as a result - great news and something I will likely have to wait for.
Bottom line - waiting is the order of business it seams :) But I'll try and make a couple of good pictures while I'm at it :)

Personally, for me, it comes down to this:  I don't find conforming clothing realistic or usable.  I don't have time to deal with fitting and gravity issues in every render, because I'd rather focus on other things.  DS doesn't let me make dynamic clothing.  Poser does.  So even though I actually like Iray renders pretty well, I'm not using DS as my posing app.  I could actually imagine making my own figure one day, and doing scene building in Blender, but still doing my posing and dial morphing in Poser (it's just so much more usable for those things).  Conversely, I have never plumbed the depths of what I could do with sculpting V4, let alone Dawn (who I find absurdly easy to sculpt).  Nor with textures.  Frankly, I don't really see an improvement between V6 and V7.  And the only clothes I've envied I'd want to be dynamic.  So the latest Vicky might be a decent investment at some point, but it's not a big draw for me.  Especially since I'm really not seeing a big difference between V6 and V7.

In terms of customers, well, I'm planning to shift my focus to stuff that translates even further than DS.  If it makes no sense to cut off the DS market, it makes even less sense to cut off the 3DS Max market by making stuff specific to content community figures.
